USA vs Spain World Cup 2019 Preview
Group Stage play is in the rear view mirror for the US Women’s soccer team as they face Spain Monday morning in the 2019 World Cup round of 16. The USWNT has yet to surrender a goal as they play for a chance to face France in the next round.
The way the USWNT has played thus far it’s hard to argue against them not winning a second consecutive World Cup championship this year.
Through the Group Stage the US Women’s team has yet to surrender a goal. They destroyed Thailand 13-0 in their opener, then took on a solid Swedish team and came away with a 2-0 win that could have been more if not for great goaltending.
Against Spain the USWNT are expected to do more of the same: win. Spain failed to score a single goal in their last two Group Stage games against Germany and China.
On the flip side, they only allowed one goal in both of those games. Holding a tough German squad to a single goal is no easy feat so their back line is playing well right now.
Look for the USWNT to try and net an early goal and force the Spaniards to open up their play and push more. That could lead to mistakes which the US Women have proven more than adept at taking advantage of.
