Studio Ghibli Enters 4K Ultra HD Arena with ‘The Boy and the Heron’ SteelBook Release

The long-awaited arrival of Studio Ghibli in the 4K Ultra HD physical media space is confirmed with the July 9th, 2024 release of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. It will be available in regular and Limited Edition SteelBook packages, and hopefully is not the first 4K UHD Studio Ghibli title that GKIDs and Shout! Factory have in the pipeline.

There are three different format versions of The Boy and the Heron on physical media already available to pre-order at Amazon:

The 4K presentation is loaded with both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. Regardless of which format you choose, included are the original Japanese language with English subtitles, and the new English-language version featuring the voices of Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson and Florence Pugh.

Here are the bonus features The Boy and the Heron will include on all formats.

  • Feature-Length Storyboards
  • Interview with Composer Joe Hisaishi
  • Interview with Producer Toshio Suzuki

Additionally the Digital 4K and HD versions of The Boy and the Heron drop a little earlier on June 25th.
