New Super Mario Bros U Trailer, Box Art and Modes Revealed

New Super Mario Bros U Trailer, Box Art and Modes RevealedNew Super Mario Bros. U is one of two confirmed November 18, 2012 Wii U launch day titles that will be available for Nintendo’s new console the same day it arrives in stores. Today during Nintendo’s New York City Wii U event, some new details and modes about the next Mario adventure were revealed and put on display in an all-new trailer.

The first New Super Mario Bros. U revealed this morning is something fans have been clamoring for, an interconnected map. You can now move around the many different levels of the game from one single map rather than have to jump from world to world. If anything it will make the game look a lot bigger when scrolling from one end of the map to the other.

Some new modes in New Super Mario Bros. U look to inject additional fun in the Mario franchise. Taking a cue from Coin Rush in New Super Mario Bros 2. on 3DS, Boost Rush Mode will challenge solo and cooperative players to get to the end of four levels as fast as possible. The catch is the side-scrolling screen speeds up as coins are collected so it will definitely get harder the further you and a friend or friends progress. Nintendo promises these coop speed runs will require “serious skills and coordination” to perfect.

New Super Mario Bros. U will also feature some new challenge modes that will task player with beating a presented challenge. Two examples given are one where you must complete a mini-level without touching the ground, and another where you must reach the end within a time limit.
