Splatterhouse on PS3, Xbox 360 in 2009; First Screens

Namco Bandai Games has announced the Splatterhouse franchise will make its next-gen debut sometime in 2009 exclusively on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

In the game, players will assume the role of Rick whose girlfriend gets lost in a mysterious rundown mansion. It’ll take otherworldly assistance to bring home his girl, so Rick dons a mystical sentient mask which gives him the brute strength and rage necessary to take on scores of beastly creatures.

As in SEGA’s Condemned, players will be able to use a variety of weapons in combat, including the severed limbs of enemies. A new gameplay element in the genre is Rick’s ability to reanimate dead enemies to fight on his side.

Taking regeneration a step further, players will watch Rick’s body decay as he takes damage instead of watching a health bar. Gaining health through the mask will visually show Rick’s body regenerate itself, layer by layer.

Splatterhouse’s story is being penned by comic book author Gordon Rennie, who has worked on Necronauts and Judge Dredd.

BottleRocket Entertainment has been working on Splatterhouse for sometime already as evidenced by these screenshots. Look for more on Splatterhouse in the coming months.
