ZombiU Wii U Dev Diary Discusses Inspiration and Mechanics

ZombiU Wii U Dev Diary Discusses Inspiration and MechanicsUbisoft has introduced the first of a new series of ZombieU video developer diaries designed to introduce newcomers to the upcmoing Wii U exclusive launch title.

Ubisoft and ZombieU senior producer Guillaume Brunier takes the captain’s seat for the diary and reveals the inspiration behind ZombieU is old school horror games that relied on fear and tension versus speed and action. He and his team have developed ZombieU to run at a slower pace and inject the genre with some good old fashioned horror.

Part of this dedication to delivering a realistic zombie horror survival game is the use of the Wii U GamePad. After spending some time with the Wii U Nintendo development kit, Brunier discovered the GamePad could serve as the physical survival kit in the game. Using the survival kit as it is intended, to change supplies or melee attacks, will aid in your survival. Going the run-and-gun route is a ticket to many deaths.

In case you weren’t already aware, Brunier discusses how the death of the protagonist in the game reanimates that character as a zombie while the player takes control of another character. Brunier promises that each playable character will only be available once. Once they’re dead, they’re dead. I’m curious to see how that plays out after several hundred deaths.

ZombieU is expected to be a Wii U launch title either this November or December.
