Thus far the new Transformers 4 rides revealed by Michael Bay have all fallen under expectations. Bumblebee and Optimus Prime have new models that aren’t too far removed from their previous ones. There are a handful of new expensive sports cars. And there’s even a military truck that will transform into the Autobot Hound.
Today’s new vehicle reveal is the first real surprise that Bay has let out of the bag. New sports cars are par for the Bay norm, but this 2014 Argosy cab-over truck by Freightliner is a difficult one to peg which side of the conflict it falls on. It could be another Autobot like Ultra Magnus, which would be my best guess. Or it could be a Decepticon given the complete lack of color and general “menacing” look and feel, such as the Stunticon Motormaster or even Nemesis Prime.
Or, it could be a completely new look for Optimus Prime that he takes upon at some point in the film, either for the foreseeable future or as a disguise for a particular mission. Transformers are, after all, “robots in disguise.”
