Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to Take a Disney Jungle Cruise

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are set to team up for the first time since their work voicing the roles of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in the Pixar and Disney Toy Story films.

Disney is pulling the pair together to star in Jungle Cruise, a live-action adaptation based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name. The project has been lingering in development for years with Roger S. Schulman (co-writing duties on Shrek) recently brought on-board to write a new draft of the script.

In addition to a pair of big name stars, Jungle Cruise has some accomplished producers driving the ship. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are part of the team behind the film. They’re currently coming off an extremely successful job as part of the producing team behind Paramount’s The Fighter with Best Actor winner Christian Bale.

Hanks will reportedly play a family man taking a trip on the boat while Allen will play the boat’s captain. Other story details are being kept under wraps but Disney is promising the story will have some twists that make it more than a traditional family adventure film.

Work will begin to bring a director on board once Schulman turns in a Jungle Cruise draft that satisfies Disney and the producers.
