One of gaming’s worst kept secrets has officially been confirmed with yesterday’s announcement that The Last of Us is being ported to PlayStation 4 by Naughty Dog. Officially dubbed The Last of Us Remastered, the updated version of one of last year’s best games on PS3 will make its PS4 debut this summer.
For The Last of Us Remastered, Naughty Dog has beefed up the resolution to 1080p, the magical number that many next-generation games are being judged by. Other technical enhancements include higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, and more that Sony and Naughty Dog are keeping under wraps for the time being.
Much like the presentation of high profile films on Blu-ray and DVD, Naughty Dog and Sony have created new director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics in The Last of Us Remastered. These commentaries feature Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.
As far as DLC is concerned, Naughty Dog is packing in much of the extra content made available post-release of the PS3 version into the PS4 version. This includes the Left Behind single player expansion, Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack, and Reclaimed Territories pack, the latter of which Naughty Dog notes that additional details will be coming at a later date.
The Last of Us Remastered is already available for pre-order with a slew of perks that will be awarded for securing the game prior to its release. They include:
- 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode
- Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign
- Increased Crafting Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
- Increased Healing Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
- 9mm Reload Speed Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign
- Rifle Clip Capacity Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign
