The Dark Knight Rises First Image Reveals Tom Hardy as Bane

There’s all kinds of movement on The Dark Knight Rises front as principle photography officially began this past week and a viral campaign kicked off.

Earlier this morning the website thedarkknightrises.com went live with a mysterious audio file that played chanting sounds. A reader at the SuperHeroHype Forums discovered at the audio spectrum revealed the message “TheFireRises” over and over again.

As it turns out, “TheFireRises” is a new Twitter feed at Twitter.com/TheFireRises where an image is being slowly revealed as the feed picks up followers who retweeted this image made up from a mosaic of Twitter users who completed the retweet. Warner’s image security proved to be as tight at Sony’s for the Playstation Network as the unmasked image has been found by Internet sleuths long before it was originally intended to.

What you see below is the first official look at Tom Hardy as the villain Bane as he will appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (click it to enlarge). He’s got more of a structural mask than the luchador type mask many associate Bane with. There are no big hoses running out the back of his head, but there does appear to be something implanted into the center of his back. He’s big, buff, and ready to give Christian Bale as Batman a run for his money.

The Dark Knight Rises continues to shoot in London, England, and will next move stateside where the majority of filming will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
