SEGA Snags ‘Alien’ Film Video Game Rights

It’s been a long time since a respectable video game based on the ‘Alien’ films has graced a PC or console, and now SEGA is looking to change that. The publisher today announced a “worldwide exclusive agreement” to bring games based on the ‘Alien’ films to next-gen systems (presumably Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, at least) starting in… 2009.

Yep, in only a little over two years you’ll get what will most likely be your first crack at mowing down Aliens as Hicks, Frost, Hudson, or your favorite Colonial Marine. In addition to a first-person shooter entry, an RPG game is also currently in pre-production along with possibly other undisclosed titles.

It will likely be some time before we hear anything new on these projects, so shelve this one under the “extremely cool news for later this decade” column for now. The news does make us wonder if there’s a new theatrical entry brewing in the ‘Alien’ line of films for 2009.
