Scarlett Johansson Will Play Janet Leigh Role in Making of Psycho

Scarlett Johansson Will Play Janet Leigh Role in Making of PsychoScarlett Johansson will be entering the twisted cinematic world of Alfred Hitchcock playing Janet Leigh in the Hitchcock biography Making of Psycho.

Joining Johansson on the Fox Searchlight project from director (writer, Henry’s Crime) are James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, and Helen Mirren as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma. The script was written by John McLaughlin, no stranger to what’s strange having penned Black Swan starring Natalie Portman.

The film chronicles the difficulty in shooting the classic Hitchcock thriller Psycho, made famous for the murder scene in which Leigh’s character gets the wrong end of a knife while taking a shower. James D’Arcy’s role is expected to be smaller than his co-stars, but he will still get high billing considering the importance of Perkins to the Psycho legacy.

Variety’s sources claim the film is being billed as the next My Week With Marilyn in that it could be up for Academy Award consideration next season. Specifically, Scarlett Johansson’s role will be in the spotlight, much like Michelle Williams was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her turn as Marilyn.

Making of Psycho will shoot this year. A release date has yet to be announced.
