Michael Caine Updates The Dark Knight Rises Script Status

E! caught up with Michael Caine at this week’s New York Toy Fair and questioned the seasoned actor about what he knows regarding the upcoming production of The Dark Knight Rises.

Caine apparently reached out to writer/director Christopher Nolan just last week after becoming concerned he had yet to see a script. Nolan told him the completed script is still a couple weeks off and that’s as much Caine as willing to share regarding that.

The last we heard about The Dark Knight rises script came from Nolan’s director of photography Wally Pfister. He showered endless praise on what Nolan has accomplished but also said the script is too long and Nolan is hard at work trying to trim it down. This would mesh with Nolan telling Caine the script is not quite ready yet, but it’s getting extremely close to being ready for showtime.

Today’s news that Marion Cotillard is in negotiations to join The Dark Knight Rises didn’t slip past E! and they made sure to drop her name to Caine. He of course had no idea but was excited at the prospect of re-teaming with his Inception co-star.

Caine also went on to praise Anne Hathaway joining the cast by saying it’s “fabulous” and called Tom Hardy, another Inception alum, a “tough British actor.” Obviously he’s excited to re-team with his Dark Knight co-stars including Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.

The Dark Knight Rises is still a couple months away from beginning production. It will hope to break records when arriving in theaters on July 20, 2012.
