Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty stars Jessica Chastain as an FBI analyst that helps track down Osama Bin Laden and Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6’s assault on the compound where intelligence suggested he might be hiding out.
Unless you have some aversion to the conflict in the Middle East and simply cannot stomach anything associated with it, there’s no reason not to go see Zero Dark Thirty this holiday season. It has been racking up the critical acclaim and awards nominations before making its theatrical debut with four Golden Globe nominations under the belt and a slot in AFI’s best films of the year compilation. A 100 percent fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes isn’t too shabby, either.
With the film set to open next Wednesday, December 19, in limited release, Sony has issued one final trailer that touches upon the players involved in the search for bin Laden and the tough decision whether to assault the compound he was believed, though not confirmed, to be hiding in. There’s a sense of desperation considering the time involved in the search, a full decade, and the huge sum of money spent trying to win a seemingly unwinnable war.
Sony has been wise to keep much of the final act out of the film’s advertising thus far and this trailer finale continues that trend. There is one last shot depicting Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 opening the doors at bin Laden’s compound and taking their first steps inside. What happens between then and finding bin Laden deep within will have to wait until the film is seen.
Zero Dark Thirty also stars Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke and Mark Strong. The wide release is scheduled for sometime in January.
