Marvel Studios has found their man to bring Captain America to life, a true living legend in the film industry.
Former Industrial Light & Magic and original Star Wars special effects guru Joe Johnston will step behind the camera and direct First Avenger: Captain America.
Johnston’s previous directorial efforts include The Rocketeer, Hidalgo, October Sky and Jurassic Park III, amongst others.
It is special effects work where Johnston’s legacy was born, from designing the cargo truck chase in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark to bringing Star Destroyers to life in Star Wars.
At the moment, Johnston is busy wrapping post production on The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.
First Avenger: Captain America is slated to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2011, just a few months before the first Avengers movie will be released. Captain America will star in both despite Johnston’s film being set during World War II and The Avengers being set in modern day.
