Universal debuted the first theatrical poster for Fast Five tonight at IGN tonight and I think you’ll agree with me that it’s underwhelming.
The poster is comprised of mostly sky with blurry speeding cars driven by Paul Walker and Vin Diesel at the bottom. The only other reference to another member of the franchise-spanning ensemble cast, newcomer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is in the top line.
With the poster debut comes a new interview with director Justin Lin who offers a more clearer picture of the plot. In Fast Five, Dom (Diesel), his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) head down to Rio de Janeiro for one last job. The job doesn’t go quite as planned when federal agent Hobbs (Johnson) trails the group to Rio and puts a monkey wrench into their plan. From there a whose who of Fast and the Furious characters including Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris from 2 Fast 2 Furious along wtih Sung Kang from Tokyo Drift come to help their friends out.
Lin promises a true bromance will blossom between Dom and Brian rather than hints of it that have been sprinkled throughout the original film and Fast and Furious. He feels like that’s what franchise fans have been wanting to see and he plans on delivering the goods.
Fast Five opens wide just ahead of the summer movie season on April 29.
