Captain America: Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo have apparently found their female lead in Revenge star Emily VanCamp per Deadline. She is reportedly currently negotiating for the role and beat out other notables including Anna Kendrick.
Rumors swirling around the Internet have suggested that VanCamp’s character will be Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter aka Steve Roger’s first love from Captain America: The First Avenger. Sharon’s history in the Marvel Comics is complex including multiple stints working with S.H.I.E.L.D., a collaboration with Red Skull, and even killing Captain America while being hypnotized.
In addition to Revenge, VanCamp is also known for working as a regular on Everwood and Brothers & Sisters.
Also set to appear in Captain America: Winter Soldier are Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Toby Jones, and Scarlett Johansson.
Captain America: Winter Soldier arrives in theaters on April 4, 2014.
