Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Announcement Teased by Website

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is considered a “sure thing” for release this November. Up until now Activision has kept tight-lipped about the now annual entry in the best-selling shooter series.

Today a new mysterious website went live with the URL FindMakarov.com. On this website is a countdown timer that will reach zero early next week when the annual GDC conference is in full swing. There’s nothing on the site that definitively says it is linked to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 but let’s take a closer look.

The site name could be a reference to Vladimir Makarov who appeared during the controversial airport “massacre” mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. His character’s whereabouts are currently unknown so it would make sense that there’s urgency to “find Makarov.”

Another hint comes from the custom Favicon the website’s owner uploaded.

Though the Favicon is extremely small, when blown up the facial features of the person in it are similar to those of Makarov. The distinctive eyebrows are especially a close match.

Whoever registered the domain FindMakarov.com covered their tracks as a third-party service was used to secure the name. It was registered only a little over a week ago which wouldn’t leave a lot of time for someone putting together an elaborate hoax to pull the whole thing together.
