Activision Goes Solo with Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero and Band Hero

Last Fall Activision put all their music gaming marbles into Guitar Hero World Tour for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii and sales were less than spectacular. The “band” oriented package was too similar to Rock Band 2 and lacked the uniqueness, simplicity and manageable price that made past iterations of Guitar Hero hard to pass on.

This morning Activision confirmed rumors by announcing there will be three individual solo music acts this holiday season to choose from: Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero and Band Hero.

Guitar Hero 5 will take the franchise back to its roots where you, the guitar and music will come together without any other distractions. Activision promises upgrades including “(the) ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly.”

DJ Hero will introduce a new innovative turntable controller (can’t wait to see this) so you can mix and remix from popular songs including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance.

Band Hero continues the tradition of Guitar Hero World Tour and continues the battle with Rock Band (and Rock Band: Beatles) using guitar, drums, bass and microphone. No other “upgrades” aside from top-40 hits have been revealed.

All of these games are expected on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii at minimum though Activision has yet to confirm versions. We expect to hear more from E3 within the next month.
