Disney’s Aladdin is flying high after a stellar debut and kick-start to the long holiday weekend.
The Friday box office results were led by Aladdin with $31 million in ticket sales including $7 million from Thursday night preview showings.
Looking ahead, Aladdin should finish between $85 and $90 million through Sunday. That total will eclipse $100 million when factoring in Memorial Day results on Monday.
On the other end of the family-friendly spectrum, Sony’s Brightburn hauled in $3 million on Friday. Its four-day total will land around $10 million or almost double the $6 million production budget.
Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Booksmart is the best reviewed new film this weekend. However, it lags behind Brightburn with $2.5 million Friday and a trajectory of $8 million through Monday.
Check back Sunday for the next round of weekend box office results that will include Saturday’s totals.
