Nintendo’s current Wii and 3DS gaming systems aren’t the most organized pieces of hardware. Downloaded games are haphazardly tossed in amongst other system functions making it difficult to find what you’re looking for without tedious scrolling through them all.
During Nintendo’s Direct broadcast event yesterday, a firmware update was announced that will give players the option to create folders on the home screen of the 3DS to help organize downloaded DSi-ware games, Gameboy and NES games, and apps such as Netflix. It will be available for free download beginning April 25.
For those of us with a ton of content on our 3DS systems, or folks who were able to take advantage of the Nintendo Ambassador program (Nintendo gave away 20 free games for those who purchased a 3DS in the original launch window) this is excellent news. Each folder can hold up to 60 files, and can be sorted by letters for easy access.
Patches are also coming to 3DS this year, including Mario Kart 7 and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. The Mario Kart 7 patch is expected to “fix” unfair shortcuts in Maka Wuhu and skipping over WuHu Island. It’s due sometime in mid-May. Additional patches release date will be announced at a later date.
