EA Sports is taking their battle cry “It’s in the Game” a step further by revealing male and, for the first time, female legends will be playable skaters in NHL 13 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Blazing trails for not only the NHL but all sports video games, Team USA superstar Angela Ruggiero and former Team Canada great Hayley Wickenheiser will be playable characters in Be a Pro mode (i.e. a career mode). Each Olympic superstar has four Olympic Ice Hockey medals to their name and will be roughing it up with the boys in a digital arena.
According to EA Sports, the decision to add women as playable characters came from a request by a 14-year old girl who felt under-represented in hockey video games. Whatever wording she used worked as Dean Richards, General Manager, NHL, EA SPORTS took notice and, more importantly, took action.
On the men’s side, joining NHL 13 legends side are greats Doug Gilmour, Jari Kurri, and Dominik Hasek.
NHL 13 hits stores on September 11 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
