What do Henry Cavill and Olivia Newton John have in common? According to Superman reboot director Zack Snyder they both want to get physical.
In speaking with Collider while making his obligatory media rounds for Sucker Punch, Snyder was asked if the new Superman would actually “punch someone in the face.” If you recall, Brian Singer’s Superman got more physical with a crashing airplane than any of his foes.
Snyder skirted around the answer a little but did promise Henry Cavill as Superman would be a “physical cat” and get into some “physical sh!t.” That’s the kind of answer you’d expect from the man behind 300 and Sucker Punch, and should appease anyone who wants more hand-to-hand combat in Superman interpretations.
Joining Henry Cavill in Superman are newly cast Kevin Costner as Pa Kent and Diane Lane as Ma Kent. Other roles, including the villain or villains, are expected to be filled in over the course of the next several months.
Superman flies into theaters in December, 2012.
