Xbox One Day One Edition games got a lot cooler today when Microsoft detailed the exclusive content for each and showed off new box art for the trio of games that works as a triptych when displayed together.
To refresh your memory, the Xbox One Day One Edition games are Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5 and Ryse: Son of Rome. Each includes unique box art and exclusive material that is not available in the regular edition, though the pricing is the exact same. Once the Day One Editions of each of these games sell out, they’re gone for good.
Let’s start with my top pick of the lot, Dead Rising 3 Day One Edition. Its exclusive content pays tribute to the heroes of its predecessors with what’s being called a “tribute pack.” Included in this pack is a classic Frank West outfit with his Zombie Slugger weapon, extra gory attacks and a custom skill move. Increased melee damage and tougher survivors are also included as attribute perks.
Joining Frank is the classic Chuck Greene oufit that includes Chuck’s Paddle Saw combo weapon that has been pumped up with increased damage and durability. His perks include enhanced weapon and vehicle durability.
Forza Motorsport 5 Day One Edition exclusive content comes in the form of a Car Pack that includes three rides. Each is outfitted with Day One livery and a custom tuning package.
The cars in this pack are the 2010 Audi TT RS Coupe, 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and 2013 Ford Focus ST.
Ryse: Son of Rome Day One Edition exclusives all are accessible through the game’s Gladiator Mode. It includes an exclusive map called Ruins with dynamically changing obstacles and objectives, as well as the Legionnaire’s Trust Sword with bonus in-game attributes.
Each of these Xbox One Day One Edition games are still available to pre-order at online retailer Amazon.com. Today’s announcement may push a few more copies out the door. I suspect Dead Rising 3 will be the first to sell out.
