Whiteout a Washout in Weekend Box Office Results

Whiteout proved a washout and Tyler Perry’s formula for success gave Lionsgate an easy win in this past weekend’s estimated box office results.

Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself scored $24 million from Friday-Sunday, more than double second place finisher Shane Acker’s 9 which secured $10.9 million despite a Wednesday opening.

The other newcomers did not fare nearly as well despite playing on the highest number of screens. Summit’s Sorority Row, touting the debut of the third The Twilight Saga: New Moon trailer, managed $5.3 million. Whiteout with Kate Beckinsale limped to a chilly $5.1 million opening riding a wave of horrific reviews.

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds crossed $100 million over the weekend with $6.5 million, good enough for a third place finish. It now stands less than $4 million short of passing Pulp Fiction and becoming Quentin’s highest grossing film.
