Christopher Nolan’s Inception proved studio early weekend box office estimates wrong by tacking on an additional $2 million bringing its total Friday through Sunday opening weekend haul to a stellar $62.8 million. Not too shabby for a film not based on something else or tied into an ongoing franchise.
I factored in Inception’s actual weekend box office total along with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Predators, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Despicable Me to calculate the final numbers for the last round of our Weekend Box Office Prophet Game. The Prophet beat the average player scores 3-2 so last week’s prize will roll into the next round that begins on Wednesday. Top player finisher WestCoastSVX takes home a consolation DVD prize for finishing on top amongst the players.
The complete top 10 weekend box office actual results for July 16-18, 2010 are as follows.
- 1. Inception: $62.8m
- 2. Despicable Me: $23.8m
- 3. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: $17.6m
- 4. Twilight Eclipse: $13.4m
- 5. Toy Story 3: $12m
- 6. Grown Ups: $9.9m
- 7. The Last Airbender: $7.6m
- 8. Predators: $7m
- 9. Knight & Day: $3.6m
- 10. The Karate Kid: $2.3m
The next round of the Weekend Box Office Prophet Game will feature Salt with Angelina Jolie along with the family friendly Ramona and Beezus taking on Inception, Despicable Me and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. A statistical bug from the July 9-11 round (the totals were based off studio estimates and not actual results) will be resolved this upcoming weekend.
