Vin Diesel’s Riddick character in the upcoming R-rated sequel Riddick demonstrates a soft side in a new clip.
While hanging out in some mud on an alien planet where the Necromongers dumped him, a deadly creature appears behind Riddick and attempts to spear him to death with its tail. Riddick avoids, of course, but rather than simple run from the monster or kill it outright, he picks up an alien puppy barking at the monster in order to save it.
The next bit is a little on the hokey side as Riddick, with puppy in arms, grabs a giant bone and Pete Rose slides under the monster in slow motion. That’s where the clip ends so we don’t get to see whether the monster lives or dies. At least the alien puppy appears to be safe.
Riddick is directed by David Twohy and invites Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Dave Batista, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo and Karl Urban to join Vin Diesel in the third outing for the gifted Furyan warrior on the big screen. It arrives in theaters on September 6.
