Another former Paramount HD DVD exclusive appears headed towards a Blu-ray release after online retailer Amazon.com added a July 29 active pre-order for Top Gun.
Assuming this pre-order pans out to be accurate, Top Gun on Blu-ray should be presented identical to its HD DVD version in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.
Top Gun on HD DVD was originally announced as a special collector’s edition but was then toned back to a bare bones release with zero supplemental features. With the added storage space Blu-ray provides, we can’t rule out the possibility Paramount will return to their first intention and release Top Gun with some extras. Realistically, odds favor a bare bones release.
Top Gun on Blu-ray will carry an SRP of $29.99. Check back regularly for the official Paramount announce and high resolution cover art.
