The Hunger Games VMA Trailer is Short and To The Point

After a week of endlessly pumping up The Hunger Games footage reveal, MTV aired the trailer during the Video Music Awards last night and it was over almost as quickly as it began.

The second-long teases doled out the past few days turned out to be not much different than the full trailer. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen comes across some burning trees in the woods, to which she responds by taking off running and finally swiftly firing an arrow from her bow. This plays out with a male voice in her head pushing her forward with inspirational talk, inter-cut with the burning The Hunger Games logo coming into focus.

MTV is calling the tease “epic,” of course, but my reaction was “that’s it?” All that footage could have been from the first day of filming months ago for all we know. It was a lot of hype that fizzled out in my opinion.

As for when a proper trailer for The Hunger Games will come around, who know? Lionsgate may choose to wait until The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 in November to roll out the first full trailer. That’s the audience they want to attract, so it seems like a logical fit.
