Actress Julianne Moore has officially boarded Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in the role of President Alma Coin, it was announced earlier today via a press release.
President Alma Coin is the leader of a rebellion that goes up against President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the Capitol. Moore will appear in both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and star alongside the core cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
Moore is a big score for Lionsgate as she brings additional gravitas to a film with a predominantly young cast. She has been nominated for four Academy Awards and won an Emmy, SAG Award and Golden Globe for her role in Game Change. She will next be seen in the Carrie remake, Don Jon and Seventh Son.
Joining Moore as new cast members that will be introduced in the Mockingjay films are Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson and Evan Ross. Dormer will play Cressida, Dawson will play Annie Cresta, and Ross will slip into the role of Messalla.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are both being directed by Francis Lawrence. The second film in the series, Catching Fire, is currently in post production and opens in theaters everywhere on November 22.
Lionsgate will deliver The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 in November 2014, and bring Panem and Katniss Everdeen’s story to a close with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 in November 2015.
