Before The Avengers hits theaters in May, Lego will release a collection of building sets based on the film as part of their first wave of Marvel offerings since acquiring the license last year.
Lego formally unveiled the Marvel collection at Toy Fair 2012 today that leans heavily on The Avengers while pulling in some other Marvel universe characters as well. Though Lego managed to keep The Avengers villains absent from their display, the name of the sets offer up their own flavor of spoilers.
A spoiler warning applies from this point forward.
First let’s start with the non-Avengers set. X-Men will make their Lego debut in ‘Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown.’ The set includes a helicopter, motorcycle and three minifigs: Wolverine, Magneto and Deadpool. This is the only new non-Avengers minifig set that debuted at Toy Fair.
Now for The Avengers sets. First up we have the ‘Quinjet Aerial Battle‘ that is described as follows, “Loki is up to no good and is planning to destroy the earth! As he flies into battle on board his chariot, help the Avenger’s defeat their nemesis using the supersonic Quinjet! Fire the missiles, release the mini-jet and imprison Loki in the prison pod! With the high-tech Quinjet, the Avengers can’t fail! Includes Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Loki and more minifigures.” The box was not on displey due to the members of Loki’s army, and likely at least one alien craft, that is included with the set.
Next up we have ‘Captain America’s Avenging Cycle‘ with Cap himself and two additional unnamed figures (re: Loki’s pals). Its description reads, “While riding his Avenging Cycle, Captain America spots the general on his craft. Help Captain America use his indestructible shield to defeat the general and his foot soldier! Win the battle and send them back to where they came from. The fate of the world lies in your hands. Includes 3 minifigures: Captain America and more.”
Keeping with the ground vehicle theme, ‘Loki’s Cosmic Cube Escape‘ introduces Hawkeye to the line and also gives away an action scene from the film, “Loki is escaping from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters with the powerful Cosmic Cube. If he succeeds, he could use it to wreak havoc on the world! Will Iron Man in his amazing armored suit alongside Hawkeye in his function-packed S.H.I.E.L.D. off-roader be fast enough to catch Loki, or will the Asgardian villain escape with the Cosmic Cube? You decide! Includes 3 minifigures: Iron Man, Loki and Hawkeye.”
Saving the best for last, ‘Hulk’s Helicarrier Breakout‘ matches a leaked script page from last year in which The Hulk gets some action on the Helicarrier. This scene seems to coincide with Loki’s imprisonment by S.H.I.E.L.D. and his eventual escape. “The Hulk and Thor have Loki captured on board the Avengers’ awesome Helicarrier. Using his powers of trickery and illusion, Loki makes Hawkeye lose control of his function-packed jet fighter. Help Hulk bring down the malfunctioning jet fighter and its flick-missiles by smashing the fuel canisters to hit the jet fighter! Then jump onto the jet fighter and rescue Hawkeye from the cockpit with the cockpit blast function! Includes 4 minifigures: Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and Loki.”
