An extended period of silence regarding Sonic the Hedgehog’s next adventure came to an abrupt halt this morning when Nintendo Worldwide President Saturo Iwata announced a new partnership with SEGA that will deliver the next Sonic video game, dubbed Lost World, exclusively to Wii U and 3D.
Apart from the lone screenshot you see below, Nintendo nor SEGA is offering any additional information about this new game today other than describing is as an “action platformer.” However, additional details have been promised to arrive ahead of E3 early next year, which makes me wonder if Sonic: Lost World will be a late 2013 release and will be playable at the big gaming expo.
Nintendo also announced the SEGA partnership is bringing a slew of SEGA Game Gear games to the Nintendo eShop including:
- Columns
- Crystal Warriors
- Defenders of Oasis
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- G-LOC: Air Battles
- Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya
- Sonic Blast
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Labyrinth
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Tails Adventure
- Vampire: Master of Darkness
