Activision made a big splash at Toy Fair 2012 with an enormous Skylanders booth fit for a “giant,” fitting considering the booth was set up to promote the second installment in the popular game franchise, Skylanders Giants.
I have snooped around the Internet and cobbled together a collection of the Skylanders Giants character, toy and gameplay reveals that appeared at the Activision Toy Fair 2012 booth. Below you’ll find video that shows an all-new Air Skylander, additional gameplay footage of the Skylanders Giant Tree Rex, a huge statue and gameplay footage of the Alchemist, Life Force Prism Break demonstration, and newly revamped Cynder and Zook gameplay footage.
First we’ll start with Cynder and Zook who have been overhauled with new sculpts and likely some new skills as well. The new Cynder was previously revealed, but Zook is all-new and there is brief gameplay footage of them both.
Next we have a new Air Skylander who resembles an armored Bald Eagle. No one seems to know this guy’s name yet, but he was represented by gameplay footage and a huge statue in the booth.
Here’s the Life Force Prism Break, a new version of the laser-charged Skylander who now lights up when he’s within a couple inches of the Portal of Power. His video is in the middle of a video tour of the entire booth, so you’ll get a quick look at everything out on the floor by watching it from start to finish.
Meet the Alchemist, a wacky new Magic Skylander whose knack appears to be mixing potions. His gameplay video shows off at least one new unseen level of Skylanders Giants.
Now we turn our focus to Tree Rex, the only revealed “Giant” Skylander thus far and likely the guy who comes packaged with the game (I’m guessing here, but it seems like a distinct possibility given his extensive exposure and prominence on marketing materials thus far).
Here’s a quick clear view of the Skylanders Giants display at Toy Fair 2012.
Last but not least, Activision handed out a Toy Far exclusive Metallic Cynder repaint in New York and a Pearl Hex in Germany. The New York Toy Fair Cynder is already all over Ebay for big money, and good luck tracking down a Pearl Hex.
Skylanders Giants comes out this fall for (at minimum) Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS and the PC. No word yet on whether Activision will support Playstation Vita or Wii U, two systems that were not available when the original Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure released last fall.
