Skylanders variant chasers have a new an unexpected white elephant to go after in the form of metallic purple Lightning Rod Series 2 from the Skylanders Giants collection.
This chase or paint variant figure literally came out of nowhere and Activision was kind enough to send one over so we could take an image and share its existence with all of you. There’s no alternative name for Lightning Rod like “Polar Whirlwind” or “Jade Flashwing,” but he’s definitely got a different look about him than the standard Series 2 release.
Purple metallic Lightning Rod looks like his normal self in the game. However, when you first place him on the Portal of Power, he is labeled as a “Series 2 Special” figure, much like other rare event variants such as the E3 Gold Hot Dog or Toy Fair Metallic Chop Chop Skylanders figures.
Activision will be randomly distributing these rare metallic purple Lightning Rod Skylanders Giants figures to retailers so be on the lookout when you hit up a store or four in the coming weeks.
