Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the sequel to Sherlock Holmes that made over $200 million at the domestic box office during the 2009 holiday season. It boasts tons of quick-cutting and slow motion action, as well as the comical moments you’d expect between a wise-cracking investigative genius and his sidekick.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law return in the roles of Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, who find themselves entangled in a dangerous game of wits with the mercilessness criminal mastermind and Holmes’ intellectual counterpart, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). Joining the cast is Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) in her first English-language role as the Gypsy fortune teller Sim, a reluctant and feisty guide for Watson and Holmes as they chase Moriarty from England to France, Germany and Switzerland. Stephen Fry also joins the cast and will play Holmes’ brother, Mycroft.
Guy Ritchie returns to the director’s chair to helm Sherlock Holmes 2 which also features additional returning cast members from the original including Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade; Kelly Reilly as Watson’s bride; Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan; and Geraldine James as Mrs. Hudso, Holmes’ landlady.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows begins a new mystery in theaters on December 16.
