Quick $14.2 Million for Sex and the City 2

Warner Bros. decision to roll out Sex and the City 2 on Thursday is so far paying dividends.

Through its opening mid-week day, Sex and the City 2 has raked in $14.2 million at the box office. That number includes $3 million from midnight screenings.

The original Sex and the City also opened Memorial Day weekend but on Friday rather than Thursday. It’s first day total was $26.8 million meaning the sequel is already half way towards meeting or exceeding that mark.

Barring any unexpected collapse from negative word of mouth (critics have slammed the film), Sex and the City 2 is poised to cross $60 million through its fifth day on Monday. The original managed $62.6 million through its first four days.
