Sony used Gamescom in Cologne, Germany to finally bring their release plans for PlayStation 4 into focus. They announced the PS4 release date and offered a PS Vita price cut, crucial to PS4 adopters who want to enjoy remote play on their new PS4 consoles.
After the conclusion of their Gamescom press conference, Sony sent out a press release detailing the PS4 launch games adopters will be able to either purchase in-store on a disc-based format . They did not, however, state which games would be available to purchase on Friday, November 15 when PS4 arrives in stores.
The 15 disc-based PS4 launch titles include NBA 2K14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Skylanders Swap Force, Battlefield 4, Need for Speed: Rivals, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Madden 25, NBA Live, #Driveclub, Knack, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Watch_Dogs, Just Dance 2014, and Lego Marvel Super Heroes.
Of those games, only three of them are Sony first-party published: Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack and #Driveclub, the latter of which is free-to-play and preinstalled on all PS4 consoles. PS4 adopters will have to wait until 2014 to see the big first-party games from Sony’s other internal development studios. Ubisoft has the same number of games available at PS4 launch.

Looking forward, Sony has confirmed that there are currently over 180 PS4 titles currently in development. These titles include Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Resogun, Diablo III, Max Max, Destiny, Everybody’s Gone to Rapture, Hell Divers, Rime, inFamous: Second Son, and more. Of course there will be at least one game from Naughty Dog that we don’t know about yet, and I’d be willing to bet that this game will be first teased during the Spike VGAs this upcoming December.
