Michael Bay set aside the Transformers franchise to direct the significantly smaller budgeted Pain & Gain last year, a black comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie and Mark Wahlberg that is based on a bizarre true story. Now Paramount has announced that Pain & Gain will make its Digital HD download debut on August 13, followed two weeks later on August 27 by the official Blu-ray and DVD release.
Pain & Gain was made for a modest $26 million, about the cost of rendering two Transformers (I kid, I hope). It went on to earn nearly double that with $49.3 million, not bad considering the film is rated R and alienated much of Bay’s youthful Transformers audience as a result.
The Blu-ray edition of Pain & Gain comes packed with the DVD and an UltraViolet digital copy, with the high-def feature presented in 1080p video and 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. There are no bonus features whatsoever included on either version of the film.
