Nintendo is taking a page from Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3 by announcing an agreement with Netflix to allow subscribers of the service (plans starting at $8.99/month) to download films via the Wii console.
The press release stops short of spelling out what portion of the Netflix library will be available via Wii, but does promise “an array of movie and TV choices [that] will be displayed right on their TV screen.” The titles will be broken out into categories such as new arrivals and genres.
As with the recent Netflix launch on PS3, Wii owners will need to order a free instant-streaming disc that must be loaded in order for the service to work. That disc, and the service with it, will be available this spring.
The Netflix instant-streaming Wii discs can be reserved now by visiting www.netflix.com/Wii.
