New Blu-ray Pre-orders: Transformers and More

Last week provided a diverse of selection Blu-ray Disc pre-orders at Amazon.com and a pair of Fox flicks popped over at DVDEmpire.com yet to appear anywhere else.

What we thought would instantly become the biggest and baddest pre-order has somewhat fizzled on Amazon’s bestsellers list. Michael Bay’s Transformers on Blu-ray, one of the bestselling HD DVDs of all time, is barely hanging onto the #9 spot. Five spots ahead of it is Iron Man which could make for an interesting sales duel when both arrive later this year.

Warner’s original The Lost Boys: Special Edition and the new direct-to-video sequel, The Lost Boys: The Tribe are being sold separately which should give the sales edge to the original.

Warner also has the hit TV show Pushing Daisies: The First Season and a comedy classic, Beetlejuice: 20th Anniversary Edition looking for a piece of the pie.

Music was strongly represented this week with a trio of titles coming available in the next couple months. Paramount announced the Rolling Stones and Martin Scorsese collaboration Shine a Light which immediately went up for pre-order. Sony BMG’s John Mayer Live In Los Angeles: Where The Light Is will be gobbled up by Jennifer Aniston. And Eagle Rock’s Korn: Live at Montreux 2004 should appeal to a decent sized crowd.

Rounding out the new pre-orders coming online at Amazon.com this past week are Funimation’s Afro Samurai: Season One (Director’s Cut), the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Fox’s family adventure Nim’s Island.

Over at DVDEmpire.com, Fox’s Night Watch and it’s sequel, Day Watch, appeared for pre-order on Blu-ray Disc with a September 9 release date. We’re still waiting for official confirmation from Fox on those.
