Electronic Arts used GDC to formally announce Medal of Honor: Warfighter is coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC on October 23.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter is a followup to the 2010 franchise reboot Medal of Honor. The game will be powered by the Frostbite 2 engine that debut with EA’s Battlefield 3 last fall, and is being developed by Danger Close Games in Los Angeles including some of the same project leads that built Medal of Honor.
Rather than isolate the action to one specific country or even region, Medal of Honor: Warfighter will make the game a global event and visit real-life hotspots around the world for multiplayer play. EA will allow Tier 1 Operators from different nations to unit on the battlefield and fight for their country. There will be a total of 12 Tier One Operators including the Australian SASR, British SAS, German KSK and Polish GROM.
The single-layer mode follows a U.S. Tier 1 Operator named “Preacher” who returns home from fighting only to find his family and the life he left behind several years earlier in shambles. When a massive explosive device known as PETN makes its way into the country and threatens both his worlds, Preacher sets out with his team to neutralize the threat.
As an added bonus for those who pre-order Medal of Honor: Warfighter, EA is offering the U.S. Navy SEAL Tier 1 Sniper on day one of launch in the limited edition version for no extra charge. The only other way to obtain this unit is by playing the game for approximately 40 hours. Locking in a pre-order is much easier.
