Sales of Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii have soared since Nintendo announced an April 27 release date last week.
At Amazon.com, Mario Kart Wii has easily claimed the #3 top selling product in all of video games over the weekend. Selling more are only Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the Wii Nunchuck controller.
All copies of Mario Kart Wii come packaged with a Wii Racing Wheel, adding additional value on top of a title Wii owners clearly are clamoring for. With sales this brisk, there’s a chance you won’t be able to find Mario Kart Wii sitting for long on store shelves on launch day.
The Racing Wheel will also be sold separately for the scant number of players who will actually prefer the wheel over the Nunchuck and Remote controllers.

Mario Kart Wii will include 16 new courses and 16 classic courses from previous Mario Kart games. For the first time ever, players have the option of racing with either karts or motorbikes. Players can also hit the road as their personalized Mii caricatures in addition to the handful of classic Nintendo characters found in the game. True to the series, the game features tons of racing, plenty of power-ups and oodles of objects for players to use to slow down other drivers. And 10 battle arenas will keep players busy between trips around the circuit.
