Lord of the Rings to make Xbox 360 debut this summer

EA this morning announced the previously PC-only game The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II is being prepped for an Xbox 360 console exclusive launch this summer. Aside from the obvious beefed up widescreen presentation and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound track, a new console-specific control scheme has been devised to ease the difficulty factor in controlling scores of armies at the same time. In addition, look for full Xbox Live compatibility where you and a friend can fight for Middle-earth from across the country.

Like us, EA is pumped with how this game will undoubtedly rock on a large high definition display. “Living these cinematic battles in high-definition with stunning surround sound, all from the comfort of your living room couch on the Xbox 360, is an extraordinary experience. Adding the ability to battle it out with friends via Xbox LIVE is also really exciting,” stated Louis Castle, VP of Creative Development at EALA. With The Lord of the Rings Trilogy confirmed for an HD-DVD launch either this summer or Fall, Xbox 360-owning Hobbit fans have much to celebrate.

Check back here a little later today in case EA decides to release some screenshots, which they often do in the hours after a news release.
