Matthew Vaughn can start counting the dollars with news that Lionsgate has picked up distribution rights to his film Kick-Ass that stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Variety reports the deal is “big” and will usher Kick-Ass into theaters sometime in 2010. Paramount and Universal were also interested in the flick about a comic-obsessed teenager who becomes a superhero despite not having a superpower or any discernible qualification.
Kick-Ass was once considered poison by studios for its excessive violence at the hands of a pre-teen girl. Since becoming the talk of Comic-Con and screening for distributors after the show, interest for Kick-Ass to see a wide release and launch a potential franchise soared.
