Sex is cheap and Lindsay strips down to her undies in a retro trailer for The Canyons that looks like it was plucked straight out of the 1970s.
The Canyons is an indie noir flick by director Paul Schrader and writer Bret Easton Ellis set in the hills of Los Angeles where 20-somethings chase sex and ambition to dangerous lengths. It stars the unusual pairing of tabloid queen Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen as a “HUGE new talent.”
There’s a gritty edge to The Canyons trailer that comes across as part grindhouse and part exploitation. No, Quentin Tarantino isn’t involved, but you would never guess it from the way the trailer is edited and dressed down.
The big question is how the finished product will play in comparison to this dialogue-less retro trailer. Can Deen actually act or just look pretty for the ladies? Will the film look contemporary as the synopsis suggests or maintain some aspects of the retro trailer? To what depths of violence and sexuality will it reach?
The Canyons is scheduled for a 2013 release.
