Latest Super Mario 3D World Wii U Trailer Offers Over Six Minutes of Platforming Joy

Latest Super Mario 3D World Wii U Trailer Offers Over Six Minutes of Platforming JoyWith one month to go until the retail release of Super Mario 3D World for Wii U, Nintendo has finally released a trailer that has me legitimately excited to dive in and start playing.

Previous and much shorter Super Mario 3D World trailers have focused on the new Mario cat suit and clear pipes used to traverse portions of levels. This over six-minute trailer digs deeper into both of those features, but then goes much deeper to premiere some new tools and several new levels.

Joining Propeller Box are new additions Cannon Box, Light Box and Coin Box. Each gives Mario a new tool exactly as their name implies; the Cannon Box shoots a cannon in whatever direction Mario is pointed, the Light Box shines a line instead of firing a cannon, and the Coin Box lets Mario, Luigi, Toad or Princess Peach rack up coins with each movement or jump.

Many other favorites will also appear in the game including the Tanooki Suit, invincible White Tanooki Suit, Mega Mario, Boomerang Mario and Fire Mario. There’s also now Double Mario that creates a clone of Mario — or two, or three — when cherries are picked up. The more cherries collected, the more Mario clones created. Clone Marios seems especially useful for taking down spread out enemies or collecting a huge field of coins in a fraction of the time with a single Mario.

This new Super Mario 3D World trailer unfortunately confirms that there will not be online cooperative play. Instead, Nintendo is offering ghosts so if you’re playing solo, you can have three ghost runs to play along with that may or may not reveal some secret paths you never thought of.

A new collectible in Super Mario 3D World are stamps scattered throughout the various worlds. The stamps can be used to fill in a massive sheet, as well as posted online in the MiiVerse.
