Iron Man 2 Soars Past $100 Million Overseas

Initial estimates for Iron Man 2’s overseas debut is painting a cash-filled picture when it opens on May 7 in North America.

Early estimates suggest Iron Man 2 pulled in an impressive $100.2 million in 53 markets without the benefit of Germany, Japan and China figuring into the tally. That number is 26% higher than Iron Man opened with the sequel beating its predecessor in every market thus far.

Looking ahead to North America, estimates for Iron Man 2’s opening weekend have ranged anywhere from $120 million to $160 million. The latter would be a new 3-day opening weekend record besting The Dark Knight’s $158.4 million. At worst Iron Man 2 should easily surpass the $98.6 opening Iron Man enjoyed.
