Infamous 2 Takes a Page from LBP Creation Mode

It was always expected inFamous 2 would give protagonist Cole new abilities, new allies and foes, new weapons and a new sandbox to play in. It was never expected that Sackboy would influence developer Sucker Punch to take the game in a radical new direction.

After keeping its existence secretive for roughly two years, today Sucker Punch announced that inFamous 2 will allow players to create their own missions and then share those missions for others to play via PSN. The first limited public beta for this new feature will go live in April.

The “play, create, share” moniker has been used to describe another Playstation 3 exclusive, LittleBigPlanet and its sequel, LittleBigPlanet 2. Now with inFamous 2 inviting the creativity of its players to build missions and objectives from scratch, we might as well give it the moniker “create, share, electrocute.” Watch a promotional trailer for this new feature below.

Sony promises you can create any kind of mission your mind can conjure given the world at your disposal. For example, if you want to play disc golf, you could use cars as the disc and define some marker as the hole. Another example Sony offers is you can have someone tell bad jokes until you shoot them. The sky is the limit in this revolutionary collision of the creation and sandbox genres.

News on how to get into the inFamous 2 Mission Creation beta will be revealed on Monday, March 14. You can bet we’ll share it here as soon as it breaks.
