Rather than an assembly of footage, the first How to Train Your Dragon 2 teaser trailer takes the unusual approach of delivering a seemingly unedited scene from start to finish. It manages to say a lot with few words of dialogue, a gift the film’s animators used often to help bring the dragon Toothless to life in the first film.
The How to Train Your Dragon 2 teaser trailer catches up with Hiccup and Toothless as they soar through the clouds at great speed. Though Hiccup’s face is obscured by a helmet, the two have clearly bonded since we last saw them. The airborne maneuvers are fanciful and performed flawlessly.
For this particular flight, Hiccup attempts a new maneuver in which he falls off of Toothless and then springs open his own set of wings to glide alongside his trusty dragon. Toothless seems to approve as the pair sail through the sky together like the best friends they are.
After the titles appear, Hiccup is seen on a beach and he removes the helmet to reveal a much older lad underneath. The ladies will now think Hiccup is “hot” as several years seem to have lapsed since the first film. I would peg Hiccup’s age somewhere between 18 and 21.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 stars the voices of Gerard Butler, Kristen Wiig, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Kit Harington, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson and T.J. Miller. The sequel takes flight in theaters on June 20, 2014, with a third film planned for a 2016 release.
