Warner Bros. delivered a nice treat this morning by offering up the first image of Henry Cavill decked out in his full Superman digs for Man of Steel. I must say he definitely looks the part.
The image isn’t your typical “first reveal” that studios send out that look like a promotional shot for a cover, either. Cavill was snapped in an action pose on-set somewhere, ready to defend what looks like a vault. He’s breaking the fourth wall by looking at the camera so it’s likely not a still from the film, but at least he’s on a set and not standing in front of a white wall while folding his arms.
Along with the image, which you can click below to view a nice high resolution version, comes what appears to be the finalized cast list. First up are the ones Warner previously confirmed: Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.
Newly confirmed cast members include Antje Traue as General Zod’s partner, Russell Crowe as Superman’s father Jor-El, Julia Ormond as Superman’s mother Lara Lor-Van, Henry Lennix as General Swanwick of the U.S. Military, and Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy of the U.S. Military.
Now that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have let Superman out of the bag, I think it’s time for Marvel to start releasing official images of The Avengers, don’t you think?
Man of Steel is in the early stages of production, but unfortunately won’t be in theaters until June 14, 2013.
