The debut of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name, took the Internet by storm a couple days ago when it debuted. Those familiar with Star Lord and his otherworldly pals were elated to see the lowlife criminals-turned-heroes in live-action backed by a modest budget. Everyone else wondered “who the heck are these guys?” while Chris Pratt flipped the bird to an intergalactic police force (Nova Corps for the uninitiated) while in custody.
It didn’t take long for the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer to zoom past two, three and four million views on YouTube after premiering on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The publicity machine was overflowing with fuel, so it took the next day to keep the momentum moving in a positive direction by offering some additional insight into the characters.
What everyone, comics fan or otherwise, wanted to know the most is how Bradley Cooper would voice Rocket Raccoon. Marvel and director James Gunn obliged the outspoken Internet and delivered Rocket’s voice along with footage snippets of Drax, Star Lord, Gamora and Groot.
The other voice fans wanted to hear is that of Groot, the sentient tree who in the comics only ever said “I am Groot.” While Vin Diesel does appear in the vignette, he does not utter any lines from the film in character.
Earlier today, Gunn took to Twitter and shared a modified version of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie poster that replaced the title with the “Ooga Chaka” lyrics of ‘Hooked on a Feeling,’ the Blue Swede song that has surged in popularity – again – since the trailer’s debut.
Below you will find all five of the brief character vignette videos as well as both the unaltered Guardians of the Galaxy poster and the spoof version.
Guardians of the Galaxy will invade theaters on August 1.
